Shank-o-Potomouses win seventh golf league title

The Shank-o-Potamuses exceeded their self-deprecating team name to win the St. Helens Men’s Club Summer Golf League title on Monday.

The squad beat the Tuesday Night champion Lions Club 5-3 to earn their seventh title.

“We’re the oldest team out there,” team captain Gary Wight said. “We’ve been together 33 years—29 as Midway Electric and the last four as Shank-o-Potamuses. This is our seventh title in that time.”

Team members include Wight, David Wight, Bob Fancher, and Bob Grams. They beat the Lions Club team of Jeff Timmons, Jerry Belcher, Mike McCoy and Jimmy Jeffrey.

Club Championship

The club championship for individuals is slated for this weekend, Aug. 24-25, 18 holes each day. The first tee-off time is 8 a.m. on the No. 1 hole. There is no shotgun start. Sign-ups can be made on the phone by calling the Wildwood Golf Course or in person at the golf course.
