St. Helens swim teams sink Parkrose

Lions get a taste for pool where NWOC district meet will be held
by: John Brewington SWIMMING HARD—St. Helens’ Andrew Collson won the 50 freestyle during last week’s meet at Parkrose. Both the St. Helens boys and girls recorded team wins.

The St. Helens High swim teams both came home from their trip to Parkrose with Northwest Oregon Conference wins on Thursday.

The St. Helens boys posted a narrow 99-71 win over the Broncos, shuffling their line-up a bit for the meet. The girls swam away with a 111-59 victory in the meet.

'We have a good boys team so we moved them around a bit,' St. Helens coach Bill Rash said. 'It's a nice problem to have. We kept the girls pretty much in the same line-up. We'll do the same thing this week.'

The boys won all three relays in the meet, plus got firsts from Jonathan Prevish in the 200 IM, Andrew Collson in the 50 free, Austin Sandford in the 100 free, and Luke Haresnape in the 100 breaststroke. Devon Brady had seconds in the 200 free and 500 free. Prevish added a second in the 100 fly and Sandford a second in the 100 back.

The girls won two of the three relays and also got six individual firsts. Jackie Prevish won the 50 free and 100 breast, Brook Hopkins took the 200 IM, Ashley Stewart won the 100 fly, Emily Spears won the 100 free, Tori Edwards won the 500 free and was second in the 200 free. Stewart also added a second in the 100 back.

The outing was the first for the teams this season, and at the pool where the NWOC district swim meet will be held. St. Helens has a trip to Liberty this Thursday, and then hosts Wilsonville on Jan. 26.
