Lions stumble at Wilsonville, down Parkrose
St. Helens leads Wilsonville for a quarter; pulls away from Parkrose in second half
The St. Helens Lions split last weeks action on the basketball court, falling to Wilsonville, but picking up their first league win of the season at Parkrose.
The Lions had just a slim lead over Parkrose at halftime, but added to it in the second half and pulled away at the end for a 52-44 win. Brandon Underwood led St. Helens in scoring with 12, and Jake Ramiskey was also in double figures with 11.
St. Helens coach Jerry Allen was happy to have a win, but not that pleased with the Lions' play.
'We didn't execute very well,' he said. 'We played just well enough to win. We did not show a lot of patience. We're still learning but we need to do the things we need to do.'
The St. Helens Lions got off to a fast start against Wilsonville, leading 16-10 after one period, but the Wildcats got hot in the second period and went on to a 69-50 win.
The visiting Wildcats outscored St. Helens 26-9 in the second period and led 36-25 by halftime. Both teams were even in the third, but Wilsonville added to their total in the fourth.
Jake Ramiskey led St. Helens in scoring with 14 points. Wilsonville had three players in double figures.
Tuesday's game with Sherwood was postponed until Wednesday due to snow on Tuesday. Further postponements were to be decided based on conditions.
