Lady Lions improve offense, but drop two
St. Helens falls behind Wilsonville early, but hangs tough with Parkrose
The St. Helens Lady Lions have upped their offensive game in the past week or so, but it hasn't quite been enough in games against Wilsonville and Parkrose.
Tuesday, St. Helens fell behind Wilsonville in the early going, and while they played them even for the last three quarters, they weren't able to make up the difference.
The Lady Lions gave Parkrose quite a run on Friday night, coming back twice from deficits to forge a lead. However, they stumbled in the last half of the fourth period, gave up some easy baskets, and didn't connect with their free throws.
St. Helens was up by five at the midway mark of the fourth, but then gave up three field goals, and two free throws over the next two minutes to fall behind.
The Lady Lions would pull within two, but missed free throws-including the front ends of one and one shots-that let them fall farther behind. When they finally got back on track it was too late.
Abbie Hanson led St. Helens in scoring both nights. She had 16 against Parkrose and 14 against Wilsonville. Monique Smiley scored 10 against Parkrose, and Mariah Mulcahy had 10 against Wilsonville.
St. Helens' game at Sherwood on Tuesday was postponed to Wednesday due to snow. The Lady Lions host Liberty this Friday.
