Lions swim team downs Liberty

Boys win all three relays and have three other firsts in 94-76 victory; girls finish close second

The St. Helens Lions swim team didn't go all out at Liberty last Thursday, but they did manage the meet well enough for a 94-76 win.

The squad won all three relay events for 26 points, and also got several individual firsts and seconds in the meet.

Jonathan Prevish won the 100 fly, took second in the 200 individual medley and swam on one relay team. Andrew Collson won the 100 free, took second in the 200 free, and swam on a relay team. Luke Haresnape had a first in the 100 breast. Winning relay team members included Austin Sandford, Blake Mullinex, Prevish, Will Lawrence, Tyler Moss, Jared Houghtelling, Devon Brady, and Collson. Many of them swam on two relays.

The St. Helens girls finished 11 points behind Liberty. They won one relay race and had three first places in the individual events.

First places were recorded by Jackie Prevish in the 50 free, Ashley Stewart in the 100 fly, and Emily Spears in the 100 free. Swimming on the winning 400 free relay team were Tori Edwards, Johanna Parkhurst, Michaella Ziegler and Brook Hopkins.

Edwards also had a second in the 200 free, Hopkins was second in the 200 IM and 100 back, and Prevish was second in the 100 breast.

St. Helens will return home next Thursday (Jan. 26) for a meet with Wilsonville at the Eisenschmidt Pool. They host Sherwood on Feb. 2.
