St. Helens leads Liberty in the fourth, but can't keep up the pace
by: John Brewington TO THE HOOP—St. Helens’ Nicole Harcourt scores two against Liberty.

The St. Helens Lady Lions looked like an improving team that wasn't quite sure how to handle success on Friday night.

The squad hustled and found a way back from an early deficit against visiting Liberty. The team trailed by just two at halftime and dominated much of the third period.

St. Helens tied the contest early, pulled out in front in the third, but couldn't stop Liberty three-pointers. Still, they finished the period with a bucket by Haley Twilleager that knotted the score.

In the fourth, a three-point play by Monique Smiley at the 6:30 mark put St. Helens on top by three. They would score just one point the remainder of the game. Both their tall posts fouled out and ball control was an issue.

Liberty outscored the Lady Lions 20-1 over that time frame.

The loss left St. Helens 0-4 in league play with a make-up game with Sherwood slated for Monday. The team was scheduled to host Rex Putnam on Tuesday. They travel to Sandy on Friday and host Milwaukie this coming Tuesday.
