Short-handed Lions lose to Putnam wrestlers

St. Helens is missing some wrestlers and loses to Putnam by one

The St. Helens Lions found themselves a little short-handed last week and it cost them in a dual match at Rex Putnam on Thursday, and the Clackamas wrestling tournament on Saturday.

'The kids battled, but we just didn't have enough to get the win,' St. Helens coach Mike McCoy said.

The Lions ended up losing by one, 40-39. The Lions were missing some of their starting varsity. McCoy said discipline, grades, and injuries accounted for the lack of numbers.

'We only entered eight guys (at Clackamas),' McCoy said. 'Several guys wrestled okay and just missed an opportunity to place. Cole (Snider) finished sixth.'

The Lions' season is rapidly drawing to a close. The team has a dual match at Milwaukie this week, and next week they will be involved in the district tournament at Sherwood.
