Team plays close at times, but can't sustain offense

The St. Helens Lady Lions get closer all the time, but couldn't keep pace in games with Parkrose and Liberty last week.

Despite some exceptional individual efforts, the locals couldn't keep their offense going on the road.

At Parkrose on Tuesday, St. Helens had a five-point lead after the first period, but scored just two points in the second period. They trailed by five at intermission. They were down just six going into the fourth period, but were outscored 21-6.

Jillian Ross had her best night with 18 points for the Lady Lions. Michelle Sass was also in double figures with 10.

St. Helens stayed in the game at Liberty on Friday, again trailing by just five by intermission. Liberty extended their lead in the third period, but St. Helens rallied to close the gap in the fourth. In the end, they lost by four.

Just three Lady Lions scored in the contest. Sass led the effort with 20, while Ross added 10. Abbie Hanson had four.

St. Helens had three games left in the regular season going into this week. They were at Sherwood on Tuesday, travel to Rex Putnam on Thursday, and finish hosting Sandy on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
