Swimming: St. Helens falls to Sandy
Boys and girls teams lose to the Pioneers, league championships on Feb. 13-14
The St. Helens girls' swimming team lost for the first time this season, finishing the dual meet season at 6-1, surrendering the title to the undefeated Sandy Pioneers 97-73 on Thursday, Feb. 6 at the Olin Bignal Aquatic Center in Sandy.
The Lions fell behind early, coming up without a first-place finish until Jackie Prevish won the 100 freestyle in 1:00.60. Prevish won the 100 backstroke and was a key piece on the 400 freestyle relay team's first-place finish.
The team did have a number of second place finishers, including the St. Helens A team in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay, Tori Edwards in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, Brooke Hopkins in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke and Ashley Stewart in the 100 butterfly.
The Northwest Oregon Conference swimming championships will be hosted by Parkrose High School on Feb. 13 and 14.
