Jimmie Jeffrey and Tom Schwab are Columbia County's latest summer golf champions.
Jeffrey and Schwab led their fields in low net (total strokes less one's handicap) and low gross (total attempts) at the club's individual tournament July 22-23 at Wildwood Golf Course in Portland.
Jeffrey bested Don Klippstein, and Jake Hull and Bob Hess tied for third.
Schwab beat Gary Wight, and Terry McMahon and Bob McNamee came away third and fourth.
At the 29th Norm Cooper Memorial Invitational July 15-16 at Crooked River Ranch Golf Course in Terrebone, local men and women -- McMahon, Jimmy May, Russ Schell and Brian Ringering against Karen Greget, Vince Greget, John Lorenz and Rich Wolf -- tied for the title at 25 under par.
On July 15, Becky Schmit came closest to the pin on the fourth hole, Carla Isett played nearest on the 11th and Schmit launched the longest drive on the 14th.
Vince Greget, Randy Von Allmen and Jeff Timmons pulled off the respective feats for the men.
Janis Walters, Cindy Wade and Traci Chelt did the same for the women on the 16th, and Josh Huber, Mike Baker and Martin Donnell followed for the men.
"Next year's dates are July 14 and 15," tournament director Ron Ridenour said. "It will be the 30-year anniversary, and some special things are planned."
