Tillamook senior defensive back Austin Weeks took away the Indians' passing attack, so Scappoose answered with Jimmy Jones.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound running back carried Cheesemaker tacklers to five touchdowns in a 42-20 runaway on Friday, Sept. 29, at Doc Adams Field.

"It was good," said Jones, who ran for 175 yards and led the defense with 10 tackles.

Jones intercepted Tillamook junior quarterback Matt Silveira down the right sideline and returned it to the Tribe's 44-yard line with 5:38 left in the first, then completed the new drive with a four-yard touchdown up the right seam and the Indians led 7-0 at 4:23.

"I liked our enthusiasm and how physical we played," Scappoose coach Sean McNabb said.

Cheesemakers senior Austin Weeks recovered Jerad Toman's errant option pitch to the left at the Tribe's 31 with 51 seconds left in the first, and burst 25 yards up the right seam for a score with 11:53 to halftime.

The point-after attempt missed, however, and the Indians led 7-6.

Jack Eggers' 70-yard run up the Tillamook sideline seconds later came to naught with a holding penalty and Scappoose ended up punting.

Weeks picked Toman's scrambling throw down the left on 4th-and-6 at the Cheesemakers' 20 with 5:04 to intermission, but Tillamook came away without points.

Jones beat Cheesemakers sophomore Chad Werner 24 yards to the left pylon for his second score and a 14-6 lead with 1:27 to the break as the Tribe's offensive line frustrated the Cheesemaker defense and Jones rode their blocks.

Jones recovered a Tillamook fumble at its own 43, and his four-yard sweep to the right of the end zone put the Indians in 21-6 control with 9:20 to play in the third.

Jones ran three yards up the gut for a score moments later, and a 28-6 rout began with 5:55 left.

Tillamook drew Scappoose offside with a hard count on 4th-and-7 at the Tribe 47, but Ross Parsons and Jackson Lehman stuffed the 4th-and-2 run over center at the 43.

The Cheesemakers fumbled a catch at their own 3, Jesse Porter recovered and Jones cashed in up the middle on the very next play for a 35-6 advantage at 1:32 in the third.

The Tribe roped its ensuing onside kick at the Tillamook 39, and Toman's five-yard keeper to the right pylon put the Indians up 42-6 with 11:35 left in the evening.

Silveira lay a 20-yard pass into senior Eli McRae's hands in the back left of the Indians' end zone to bring the deficit to 42-13 with 6:55.

Tevin Jeannis wound his way upfield for a kick return called back with a penalty and, when the Indians fumbled the drive away in Cheesemaker territory, Silveira's 30-yard touchdown to senior Maxwell Brown down the deep right lifted spirits with 19 seconds left but was too little too late.

Toman completed five passes -- all to Jeannis -- for 69 yards, Benji Davidson put all six of his extra-point attempts through the uprights, Parsons and Nicky Gill both made nine tackles, Porter rushed for a sack and Nate Maller forced a pair of fumbles.

"I think as a whole we played really well," said Maller, a senior lineman. "At times Tillamook got chippy and had some illegal hits on us [myself included], and we responded well to their play. We came out ready to play, and it helps when you have someone like Jimmy Jones scoring five touchdowns for you to come away with the victory."

Scappoose is scheduled to play at Banks (5-0, 2-0) at 7 p.m. Friday.
