Motorcyclist killed on Roy Rogers Road Sept. 27

A King City man was pronounced dead at the scene

A King City motorcyclist lost his life on Sept. 27 following a collision with motorist on Southwest Roy Rogers Road and Scholls-Sherwood Road.

When Washington County sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found that a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 15-year-old Hubbard youth had been traveling south on Roy Rogers Road (which is south of the Southwest Scholls-Sherwood intersection) when it apparently veered onto the right shoulder, lost

control and then crossed the centerline.

When the Suburban crossed into oncoming traffic, it collided with a 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling the opposite direction, according to Sgt. Bob Ray, a spokesman for the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.

The motorcyclist, identified as 66-year-old Dale Smith of King City, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver was driving with a valid Oregon instruction permit at the time of the crash, said Ray and there was a licensed driver and another passenger in her vehicle.

No one in the driver’s vehicle was injured.

Members from the Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team responded

to assist with the investigation, the results which will be forwarded to the Washington County District Attorney’s office for review.
