2013 Maid Marian Court applicants sought

The Sherwood Robin Hood Festival Association is launching its annual quest for the 2013 Robin Hood scholarship recipient, as well as the Maid Marian Court for the 60th annual festival this July.

In the spirit of Robin Hood himself, a $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior residing in Sherwood. Scholarship applications are available online at robinhoodfestival.org, at the Sherwood High counseling office and the Sherwood Public Library. Applications must be received no later than Friday, April 19.

The selection process will soon begin for Maid Marian and her Court, one of the most honored traditions in Sherwood. The Junior Court is open to girls in grades 1-4, and the Senior Court consists of middle and high school girls in grades 8-11. The Maid Marian Court is a wonderful way to be of service to the Sherwood community and beyond, opening the door to many opportunities.

The Court is not only an honor, but also a lot of fun, participating in not only the Sherwood Robin Hood Festival parade, but also multiple parades nearby. The Court officiates at the Knighting Ceremony, the Archery Awards Ceremony and is often featured on local television.

Application forms for the Maid Marian Court are available at Sherwood elementary and middle schools, the Sherwood High counseling office, the Sherwood Public Library and online at robinhoodfestival.org. Applications must be postmarked by April 1 and sent to the Robin Hood Festival Association at P.O. Box 496, Sherwood 97140. Girls in public, private and home schooling are encouraged to apply.

Maid Marian Court interviews will take place Saturday, April 13 at the Sherwood LDS Church next to Sherwood High, 17234 S.W. Meinecke Road. The Coronation will be Monday, April 22 at 6 p.m. at the Sherwood Public Library.

The 60th Annual Robin Hood Festival is July 19-20, with the 58th Annual International Archery Tournament running July 20-21.
