Police search for men who set off fireworks, started brush fire

by: MADELINE GARLAND - Sherwood police believe illegal fireworks are responsible for a grass fire that burned a field off of Oregon Street Saturday evening.Sherwood police are looking for three white males who they believe set off illegal fireworks that caused an extensive brush fire off of Oregon Street Saturday evening. At about 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of illegal fireworks with someone reporting that three shirtless males wearing shorts were seen running from the area of the fire.

An initial investigation conducted by Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue determined the origin of the fire began 50-75 feet from the railroad tracks where a spent firework was located, according to Sherwood Police Capt. Ty Hanlon. Additional modified fireworks were located along the railroad tracks by the Sherwood Police Department on Sunday. The Portland Police Explosive Unit Division examined the modified fireworks and rendered them safe. They were collected as evidence. Hanlon said Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue extinguished the original fire but continued to monitor the area for potential flare-ups from smoldering embers. Police are seeking the help of the public with any information related to the fire or identification of the subjects seen leaving the area. Anyone with information should call 503-629-0111.
