Movoto lists Sherwood in the second spot of most livable cities in the state

Just when you thought Sherwood couldn’t receive any more love as a “best place” to live, Movoto Real Estate has listed the city as No. 2 in a statewide ranking.

Movoto, an online real estate brokerage firm based in San Mateo, runs a blog that lists itself as “the lighter side of real estate,” and ranked Oregon Cities based on such things as:

• Amenities

• Cost of living (percent above or below state’s average)

• Crime rate

• Education

• Median household income

• Home value

• Distance to closest 5-star-rated hiking

• Distance to closest ski resort.

Here’s what the site had to say about Sherwood:

“Just southwest of Portland lies the little gem that is Sherwood. Sherwood may be a few miles further away from the closest five-star hiking trails and ski resorts, but it more than makes up for it with its other features.”

Movoto also touts the fact that Sherwood is one of Oregon’s safest cities with a crime rate 67 percent lower than the state average as well as having average household incomes of $83,000, “and their kids are smart! High school graduation rates in Sherwood are 15 percent higher than the Oregon average.”

For the record, Bend made the No. 1 spot and Tigard ranked No. 6 on the list.

The ranking comes on the heals of two previous accolades.

In August, CNN/Money Magazine’s Best Places to Live placed Sherwood in a No. 5 ranking in its annual issue of most livable spots in the United States.

A month later,, a personal finance and credit card comparison website, ranked Sherwood No. 10 as a top Oregon city for young families. Sherwood made the list based on public school ratings, median home value, ongoing cost of home ownership, median income and economic growth.
