Known internationally for its academic excellence, the academy program is held at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. It offers 10 weeks of advanced leadership and management, investigative and fitness training. Only command-level officers who have proven records as professionals are invited and selected to attend.

Training for the program is provided by FBI Academy Staff, FBI Field Agents and others who hold advanced degrees and are recognized internationally in their field of expertise.

A member of the Sherwood Police Department since 2009, Daniel has over 33 years of experience in law enforcement, starting his career as a cadet with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Department in 1981.

His first job was with the Salem Police Department, where he achieved the rank of sergeant and was instrumental in starting the department’s police K-9 program.

While working in Salem, Daniel also received the Medal of Valor and Life Saving Award. He was later hired as a lieutenant with the Port of Portland Police Department. At the Port of Portland, Daniel oversaw patrol shifts, the Explosive Detection Canine Team and was a bomb technician.

“The FBI Academy provides communities, through their attendee, with valuable additional resources that they didn't have previously,” said Sherwood Police Chief Jeff Groth. These include an increased knowledge base in specific subject matter, increased professional connections that can be used for insight on particular issues and crime trends and an increased level of professionalism for the community's policed force.”

Groth said that there are no additional costs to the Sherwood department because the FBI pays for the training and related travel expenses of those attending the academy.
