Office Depot is opening its first "green urban store" on July 31, at its remodeled downtown Portland store on 604 S.W. Washington St.

The chain is pioneering a smaller-format store that showcases environmentally conscious products. Those will be certified by EPEAT, or Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool, a global registry for greener electronic products that is based in Portland. The organization has developed a new EcoSense label to rate electronics products.
