Owl project kicks off

Are you a night owl?

Come hang out with other nocturnal creatures — and be part of a citywide science project — at the second-annual Owl Citizen Science Project hosted by The Friends of Tryon Creek.

The public is invited to a free lunch and informational session 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Nature Center at Tryon Creek State Natural Area, 11321 S.W. Terwilliger Blvd.

In a series of late-night outings from November through February, participants will monitor and observe where Tryon’s owl species are nesting from December through April. Last year a group of 19 people made seven outings, making owl calls and observing the nocturnal creatures’ habits.
