Art exhibit explores coal exports
Activist creates exhibition at Blackfish Gallery
Blackfish Gallery in Portlands Pearl District will exhibit an installation on the potential for Northwest coal exports during the month of October by local artist/activist Bonnie Meltzer.
Entitled Know Coal No Coal, Meltzers work will be viewable 24/7 at the gallery on 420 N.W. 9th Ave.
Meltzer was invited to produce the exhibit when she co-organized a Portland rally against coal exports in August, and asked Blackfish to display a poster publicizing the rally. Meltzer expects to complete the exhibit and hang it by Sept. 30.
Shes been working to educate the Portland community about the coal exports issue for several months, and says art is a great way to communicate.
