The Portland area has the most publicly available electric vehicle charging stations in the nation on a per-capita basis, according to a new report by the Clean Edge research company.
The company, which focused on the emerging clean technology industries, ranked Portland third in the nation overall in its inaugural Metro Clean Tech Index. The index ranks metro areas by a variety of factors, including green buildings and vehicles, use of renewable energy, greenhouse gas emissions, clean-tech innovation, public transportation ridership, venture capital investment, clean energy patents, and clean-economy jobs.
Portland also ranks tops in the nation in the number of LEED-certified green buildings, and for having a utility, Portland General Electric, with the nations leading green-power purchasing program.
San Jose and San Francisco, Calif. ranked Nos. 1 and 2 in the survey; Sacramento and Seattle ranked Nos. 4 and 5.
