Water Bureau inks deal with Portland's Lucid Energy.

Portland-based Lucid Energy has inked a deal with the Portland Water Bureau to install a system for generating hydro energy by tapping water flowing inside a water pipe.

The project, at Southeast Powell Boulevard and 147th Avenue, will provide renewable electricity for about 150 homes around the clock.

The project is targeted for completion by June.

It’s Lucid’s second installation, after one completed earlier this year in Riverside, Calif. The startup company also is installing a system in San Antonio, Texax.

“Lucid Energy’s LucidPipe Power system provides a new way for us, as a water bureau, to generate electricity from our biggest asset and reduce the cost of delivery for our customers,” Water Bureau administrator David Shaff said in a prepared release.
