Floor wax stripper allegedly kills fish in Beaverton Creek
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality fined a Portland cleaning contractor $11,200 for allowing wastewater to pollute Beaverton Creek.
DEQ issued the penalty to Best Building Maintenance and Carpet Care Inc. for dumping wastewaster from a floor cleaning operation into a stormwater catch basin. The wastewater, which included wax stripper, turned the creek milky-white and killed several fish, according to the DEQ.
The stormwater catch basin drains to the creek and a pond in Little Peoples Park.
