City water pipes in East Portland to produce electricity via moving water
Lucid Energy has completed the installation of its first Portland system capable or producing hydro energy from moving water inside pipes.
Lucid, also based in Portland, laid the pipe for the Portland Water Bureau at a construction site at Southeast 147th Avenue and Powell Boulevard.
The next step, says Lucid CEO Gregg Semler, will be to connect the pipe system to the electrical grid.
It's expected to produce enough electricity to power 150 Portland homes around the clock.
