The 13th annual Explorando el Columbia Slough is Saturday, June 14 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m at Whitaker Ponds Nature Park.

This free bilingual event features live music, guided canoe trips, storytelling, folk dancing and environmental education workshops. The first 300 visitors receive free T-shirts.

Penny Beckwith, outreach director for the Columbia Slough Watershed Council, hopes the event will “offer an accessible experience for Spanish speakers in our community, and our community in general, centered around nature and an active exploration of the watershed."

An optional bike ride to and from the event begins at 12 p.m. at 6706 N.E .Killingsworth St. in Portland,. Bikes are available on loan, but supplies are limited.
