The Portland Bureau of Development Services slashed the fee for a Prescriptive Residential Solar Permit from $554 to $263, to support the citys renewable energy goals.
We are hopeful that the reduction in building permit fees for solar installations on residential structures will encourage more homeowners to adopt this sustainable energy source, helping the City to meet sustainability goals, Commissioner Amanda Fritz stated in a news release.
The Bureau of Development Services, which Fritz oversees, says the 52 percent reduction in the fee still enables the city to recoup its costs.
The bureau worked with solar industry representatives to assess the current fees associated with solar permitting and inspections, and says it was able to streamline the permitting process, enabling the fee reduction. Separate fees for solar electrical hookups will remain the same.
