The city of Sandy is preparing once again for its monthly First Saturday Market, which is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 5, inside the AEC Building, 39085 Pioneer Blvd.

Among the vendors who will fill the two floors of the building's foyer are small business owners and artisans who offer jewelry, eggs, candles, photographs, pepper jelly, bird houses, hanging baskets, vegetable and herb starts, and a variety of fresh food from Busy Bee Catering.

'There's plenty of time (during the five-hour market) to visit with the vendors and find that special gift,' said Sandy Event Coordinator Carol Cohen.

And anyone who gets hungry during that time doesn't need to go find a restaurant. A variety of food is available right there at the market.

The kids are always interested in the alpacas that come to the market from a local alpaca ranch as well as the stuffed animals and other alpaca products brought to town by Sandi and Arnie Poutala, owners of Cedar Springs Alpacas.

Cohen is adding new vendors each month, and plans to move outdoors in Meinig Park when the weather clears (likely June 2).

'Anyone who wants to be a vendor at the market should call me,' Cohen said.
