Darrell Alvin Meyer

March 9, 1950-Dec. 27, 2011

Darrell Alvin Meyer, a resident of Boring, died Dec. 27, 2011, at Legacy Hopewell House Hospice in Portland. He was 61.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at the Wildhorse Harley-Davidson Dealership, 63028 Sherman Road, Bend. Call Cam at 703-943-7982 to RSVP.

Mike Calkins

July 27, 1940-June 8, 2012

Former Brightwood resident Mike Calkins died Friday, June 8, after a long illness. He was 71.

At his request, no services will be held. A private burial will be at Cliffside Cemetery.

Mike was born July 27, 1940, in Kellogg, Idaho, to Amby and Fran Calkins. When he was a young child, the family moved to Oregon and made their home in Brightwood, where Mike was raised. He graduated from Sandy High School and began his career as a truck driver.

On Aug. 19, 1963, he entered the Army. After his honorable discharge on May 19, 1965, he returned to Brightwood and continued his career as a truck driver. Mike also worked for his parents at Sandy Oil for many years.

For the last five years, Mike resided in the Portland area. He was an avid Oregon State Beaver fan and loved watching all types of sporting events.

Survivors include his sister, Patricia Calkins of Portland; and longtime family friend Sue George of Portland.

Ruth Schiele

Dec. 7, 1929-June 12, 2012

Sandy resident Ruth Schiele died Tuesday, June 12, in Gresham with her family by her side. She was 82.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 18090 S.E. Langensand Road.

Contributions may be made to the Sandy Veterans of Foreign Wars 4273, 38452 Proctor Blvd., Sandy, 97055; or the Sandy Optimist Club.
