Truck hits teen boy on Proctor Boulevard
A 13-year-old Sandy boy was hit by a vehicle while he was crossing Proctor Boulevard at Beers Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, July 14.
The boy, who was taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, was treated for a broken arm and serious but non-life-threatening internal injuries, according to a family spokesperson. By Monday, the boy's condition had improved enough to be removed from ICU, but he is expected to be hospitalized at least the rest of the week, until his condition stabilizes.
On the night of the incident, a vehicle had stopped in one lane to allow the boy to cross the street, but a Dodge truck driven by a 24-year-old man from Elmsford, N.Y., attempted to pass the stopped car, using the other lane.
Thats when the youth was hit because the driver could not apply the brakes fast enough, according to a report from the Sandy Police Department.
The driver was cited into Sandy Municipal Court for violating a state law: failing to yield to a vehicle stopped at a crosswalk.
