In its third year, the Family Fun Festival promises to be as good as or better than ever.

Organized by Sandy’s event coordinator, Carol Cohen, the festival will tickle the fancies of kids and grownups alike.

At every turn, children of all ages will find activities that interest them.

“Each vendor will have hands-on activities for the kids,” Cohen said. “It could be getting tattoos or face painting or beading — anything that will get them interacting with vendors.”

Kids also will flock around Mister Lizard Man and his creepy crawlies.

At the same time, adults may visit informational tables where vendors will explain local programs for local children — especially educational, recreational and fitness programs.

Also ever-present at the festival will be members of the Sandy Kiwanis Club, which is the event sponsor. Cohen said the Kiwanians have paid most of her major expenses.

Time for parents and children to share can be found in front of the stage, where five hours of varied entertainment will be a nice occasional diversion from the other ongoing activities around Sandy Bluff Park.

The stage shows include martial arts and gymnastics demonstrations and Zumba dancing as well as performances by the SALT academy of dance, drama and voice in Gresham, the KAD center for the performing arts in Gresham and a group called Move To Center that teaches yoga and Pilates for everyone.

Activities for the times when park visitors are not watching stage performances or listening to the DJ’s music from the stage include a bouncy castle, face painting, a balloon artist, petting zoo of farm animals and alpacas, craft projects, disc golf and a rock wall to climb.

Adults will enjoy learning about so many of the opportunities in this area for private preschools, a charter school, recreational activities as well as health and safety — which means uniformed Sandy police and fire personnel will be present with their vehicles.

Cohen says this is an all-day activity, and she suggests entire families come and spend the day.

Considering the alternatives, what more could any child or parent wish for on a sunny summer Saturday?

Remember, Lizard Man will be there.
