Sandy Summer Sounds continues with BassMandolin

Feinberg and Oberlin produce their own repertoire, along with Americana, swing, jazz and several genres

BassMandolin, an acoustic pairing of Josh Feinberg on the upright bass and Brian Oberlin on the mandolin, will take the stage at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 29, for the next Sandy Summer Sounds in Meinig Park.by: CONTRIBUTED PHOTO: BASSMANDOLIN - Josh Feinberg, left, and Brian Oberlin fuse the upright bass and mandolin to cover Americana, swing, jazz and classical covers.

The duo is known to achieve a chemistry unlike any other with concerts full of new ideas. They spring and lope through songs, bouncing off one another’s nuances with a lively thrill.

Much of Feinberg and Oberlin’s repertoire is original music written for their specific instruments — instruments at opposite ends of the musical note spectrum — but they offer Americana, swing, jazz and classical tunes as well.

Feinberg is known nationwide as a premier sitar player. He feeds from his classical jazz and Indian music background.

Oberlin, founder and director of the Oregon Mandolin Orchestra and River of the West Mandolin Camp, has a background in bluegrass and swing.

The concert will take place at Theater in the Woods, the smaller of the two stages in the southeast part of Meinig Park, 17670 Meinig Ave. Bring a blanket or stadium chair for the bench seating.
