Police log

Information for the public safety column comes from public records of the Sandy Police Department. Police recently filed reports on the following incidents:

WARRANTS

1 p.m. Jan. 1; Christopher D. VanGordon, 25, Fairview, was arrested in the 38600 block of Galway Street on a Clackamas County warrant for violating a no-contact release agreement. He was lodged in the Clackamas County Jail without bail.

7:39 p.m. Jan. 1; Tyler J. Strong, 26, Thousand Acres, Calif., was arrested near Proctor Boulevard and Scales Avenue on a city of Troutdale warrant for failure to appear for a traffic offense. He was lodged in the Clackamas County Jail without bail.

3:54 p.m. Jan. 2; Mitchell R. Jordan, 54, Sandy, was arrested in the 17600 block of Bluff Road on two Clackamas County warrants for failure to appear for criminal trespass and a Multnomah County warrant for theft. He was lodged in the Clackamas County Jail on $16,234 bail.

6 p.m. Jan. 2; Vladik P. Meladze, 32, Sandy, was arrested in the 19200 block of Oak Avenue on two Clackamas County warrants for failure to appear for driving while intoxicated and giving false information to police, a Multnomah County warrant for failing to appear for driving while intoxicated, a Washington County warrant for a parole violation and two misdemeanor warrants from Missouri. He was lodged in the Clackamas County Jail without bail.

1:42 a.m. Jan. 3; Kenneth E. Goucher, 32, a transient, was arrested near Pleasant Street and Strauss Avenue on two Clackamas County warrants for failure to appear for trespassing and unauthorized entry to a vehicle. He was lodged in the Clackamas County Jail on $60,000 bail.

9:03 p.m. Jan. 5; Joshua I. Higdon, 22, Sandy, was arrested in the 38400 block of Park Street on a Clackamas County warrant for violating a no-contact release agreement. He was lodged in the Clackamas County Jail without bail.

11:27 a.m. Jan. 6; Cherron L. Adams, 23, Sandy, was arrested in the 39400 block of Gary Street on two Clackamas County warrants for assault and harassment. She was lodged in the Clackamas County Jail on $40,000 bail.

IMPAIRED DRIVING

2:49 p.m. Jan. 3; Travis Kohler, 21, Longview, Wash., was arrested on Highway 26 near Ten Eyck Road under suspicion of driving while intoxicated. After a rear-end crash, he was charged with having an open container of an alcoholic beverage, possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana, following too closely and reckless driving. He was transported to the Clackamas County Jail, where he was booked and later released.

THEFT

6:33 p.m. Dec. 29; an employee of a business in the 37600 block of Highway 26 reported that someone had left the store with a number of items of merchandise without paying for them. Another customer of the business provided a description of the person and the getaway vehicle. The investigation is continuing.

2:51 p.m. Jan. 2; a woman reported to Sandy police that her cell phone was stolen while she was shopping in a business in the 16600 block of 362nd Drive.

7:22 p.m. Jan. 2; Sandy police were called to a business in the 37000 block of Highway 26 on the report of a robbery. Officers learned that several men threatened one of the business’ customers in a parking lot. The men ran away with items of undisclosed value. Police are continuing to investigate.

CITATIONS

8:26 a.m. Jan. 6; Gerald M. Hembree, 30, Rhododendron, was cited and released near Highway 26 and Bluff Road after a crash. He was accused of driving with a suspended driver’s license, no liability insurance and careless driving. The vehicle was towed.

JUVENILES

11:55 a.m. Dec. 31; a 17-year-old boy was reported as a runaway. The report, which came from the juvenile’s guardian, was relayed to a national database for missing persons.

BURGLARY

8:57 a.m. Jan. 5; an attempted burglary was reported in the 38800 block of Pioneer Boulevard sometime during the past month. A door lock was damaged, but nothing was reported taken. No suspects were identified.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

6:53 a.m. Jan. 3; overnight someone egged a woman’s vehicle while it was parked in the 38600 block of Pleasant Street.

5:30 p.m. Jan. 5; a resident of the 38700 block of Redwood Street reported that someone scratched the glass on his sliding glass door.

MISCELLANEOUS

3:30 p.m. Dec. 15; a Sandy police officer received a report from a female (age unidentified) about sexual assaults that occurred more than one year ago. She told the officer she was assaulted by a friend on two separate occasions. A statement and description of the incidents was taken, and the case was given to a detective for a continuing investigation. According to the police report, charges — if approved by the district attorney — could range from sexual assault to sodomy to rape or strong-arm assault.

8:53 p.m. Dec. 17; a man living in the 19000 block of Wellesley Avenue flagged a passing police officer to report that his sister was being harassed. He said someone had left a note on her front door. The officer contacted the man’s sister, and the investigation is continuing.

5:46 p.m. Dec. 19; a woman living in the 14400 block of Hollyview Terrace in Damascus reported to a Sandy police officer that she thought her ex-husband had taken some of her firearms. The officer spoke with the woman and her ex, and determined it was a civil matter, not criminal.

8:44 a.m. Dec. 20; a 46-year-old woman from Happy Valley was kicked out of the Sandy Community Center because she refused to follow the established rules. The woman was told she would be arrested if she didn’t leave immediately and she would be arrested if she returned.

1:25 p.m. Dec. 25; a Sandy officer responded to a call of an aggressive dog trying to bite people near Barlow Parkway and Miller Road. The officer found the dog near Tupper and Dubarko roads, and immediately had to use pepper spray to avoid being bitten. The officer immediately called for help while using the spray. But before help arrived, he ran out of spray and had to shoot the dog to avoid being bitten.

LOST AND FOUND

11 a.m. Dec. 4; a bicycle was located in the front yard of an abandoned home in the 17000 block of Bluff Road. The bicycle was placed in the police property room for safekeeping.

2:11 p.m. Dec. 6; an apparently abandoned bicycle was located in the 39600 block of Gary Street. The bicycle was placed in the police property room for safekeeping.
