Sandy Fire District firefighters were on the scene along with Sandy police officers to secure the area.

Initially, the store was evacuated, and firefighters shut off the flow of gas to the store, while they waited for the arrival of Northwest Natural Gas crews.

The Fred Meyer store was closed at approximately 8 a.m. Thursday and a perimeter completely evacuated. The store remained closed for a couple of hours, said a spokesperson for the Sandy Fire Department, until the leak was fixed and any gas remaining in the store was evacuated.

The Fred Meyer gas station remained open during the incident, and could be accessed from either Champion or Industrial ways.
