Visit with local business owners

The Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce will have its Good Evening Sandy networking event at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the Clackamas County Health Wellness Center at Sandy High School, 37400 Bell St.

The gathering is a chance for local entrepreneurs to meet people from other businesses while enjoying fun, door prizes and refreshments.

Bring a dollar to enter a drawing, which gives prizes to the winners and saves 50 cents from each entrant to pay for gifts and food for a needy family next Christmas.

Here’s help for area businesses

The Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce is offering a free workshop, presented by Paula Springer of Key Elements, to help local businesses make their venues inviting and relaxing. It will be from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the chamber office, 38963 Pioneer Blvd.

Springer also will talk about what elements to use to gain the largest impact with the least cost.

Free college class on starting a business

The Mt. Hood Community College Small Business Development Center offers a free online class titled “Going Into Business: Start Smart.”

The class is offered at any time on-demand, and will teach the basics of opening a small business in Oregon, including such topics as how to register a business name, locate resources for small businesses and gain access to capital as well as how to open a business bank account and obtain a tax ID number for the business.

Free business counseling is available to those who complete this online course.

The class originates from the MHCC Small Business Development Center, 501 N.E. Hood Ave., Gresham.
