Dive teams search for child lost in Sandy River

Search teams and divers continued to look Monday morning for the body of a child who was swept away in the Sandy River near Glenn Otto Park.

Troutdale police reported Sunday afternoon, June 30, that two children, ages 7 and 9, were playing in the shallow water at the park at about 5 p.m., but got into deep water and were unable to get back to shore. AMR lifeguards at the park pulled one child from the water. The second child disappeared in the current.

Names of the two children have not been released.

Members of the Portland Fire and Rescue Dive Team spent several hours in the river searching for the child’s body. The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team also searched without success.

The search was suspended after dark. It resumed at about 7 a.m. Monday, July 1.
