Fire captain retires

Capt. Art Blaisdell of the Sandy Fire District has decided to retire after 32 years of service to area residents.

Blaisdell will be honored in a public way during a reception from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at the Sandy Fire Annex, 17459 Bruns Ave., across the street from the fire department.

Blaisdell began his service to the district as a volunteer in 1981. The following year, Fire Chief Bob Rathke hired Blaisdell as a career firefighter and mechanic. He was responsible for maintaining all fire apparatus and buildings.

Fire department personnel are asking local residents to attend the Friday gathering to share stories and/or wish Blaisdell well in his retirement.
