Boring Fire taps new fire marshal
After nearly 28 years with Boring Fire and Rescue, Pat Bigelow has been promoted to the position of fire marshal, a job that has been vacant since the retirement of Don Patty.
Bigelow began his service as a volunteer firefighter, and joined the career ranks in 1998. He became the fire district's lead investigator in 2000 and transferred into the prevention office the same year.
While working alongside former fire marshal Patty, Bigelow gained working knowledge in at least four of the specific codes that he and Patty dealt with daily.
Bigelow has earned at least six certifications that enable him to perform the duties of a fire marshal.
Bigelow says he loves working with contractors doing new construction from the ground up. His purpose in working with builders is to ensure proper emergency access and fire-safe buildings.
A date for a swearing-in ceremony has not been announced.
