Theater boasts new wheelchair lift
SAT becomes more accessible
For years, the Sandy Actors Theatre board lamented that its steep front stairs excluded many from attending live theater productions.
A fix was well beyond the theater's modest resources until a wheelchair-bound theater buff and Cascadia Village resident, Sally Angelino, moved efforts forward.
Sandy Actors Theatre becomes wheelchair accessible at the opening of 'Marvin's Room' on Friday, Feb. 10, and Angelino will take the first ride on the new lift at 7:15 p.m. during a grand opening ceremony.
To date, the front stairs to the Sandy Actors Theatre lobby have been remodeled, one bathroom has been made fully handicapped accessible, and theater seating has been reconfigured to accommodate up to six patrons in wheelchairs. The lift itself is on order and will be installed by Feb. 3.
Fundraising efforts came from Cascadia, Sandy Actors Theatre's donations, patrons and the Meyer Memorial Trust. To make reservations for wheelchair spots at Sandy Actors Theatre, call 503-668-6834.
