Action Center planning fundraiser
A fundraising dinner later this month will help pay for necessary programs for increasing clientele at the Sandy Community Action Center.
SAC volunteer Sandy Lazenby is a part of a group which, since 1961, has been serving families in need within the boundaries of the Oregon Trail School District.
Lazenby says the dinner will provide two benefits, besides a meal for the participants.
'All of the money raised will go to the operating expenses of the center,' she said. 'And our second purpose, which is equally important, is to get the word out about what we do and who we serve.'
Action Center services include monthly food boxes, community baskets, share food boxes, USDA supplemental food boxes for seniors, free summer lunches for kids, free daily bread as well as pastries and produce, vouchers for clothing, community garden, weekly free lunch bus, weekly free evening meal site, supplies for homeless, back-to-school supplies, Thanksgiving food boxes, Santa Day, Christmas adopt-a-family, job skills development and layettes for new mothers.
The second annual dinner begins at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Sandy Community Presbyterian Church, 39290 Scenic St. Tickets are $25 each or $200 for a table for eight.
