Benson is realizing a dream in salon ownership. When she started her career as an independent contractor 24 years ago, the goal she set at that time is to be realized Oct. 1, the day she takes over the existing salon.

“I see this as an opportunity to grow in my business,” she said. “And that’s what I want to do.”

The five experienced stylists currently at That Salon (pictured on this page) will remain there under Benson’s leadership.

Services available at the full-service salon include haircuts, color, perms, styles and facial waxing. The services of a licensed massage therapist also are available at That Salon. Retail products can be found in the salon.

Benson sets the bar high for hair styling, especially for her, but not just for the ability to make people look good.

“I enjoy the relationships,” she said. “And I enjoy making people feel good. This has been a passion of mine since I was a little kid, and I still love it.”

Benson never tires of her work because she says it gives her energy and encouragement.

“(Styling hair) is something that inspires me daily,” she said. “I enjoy having interaction with people, and the ultimate goal is to meet people with a frown and have them leave with a smile. That’s as rewarding to me as it is to my clients.”

For anyone who hasn’t been pampered by one of the stylists at That Salon, Benson says when customers visit her salon they will find a very comfortable space, friendly people and a professional atmosphere.

Future additions could include a nail technician to work at a station now available, Benson said, and another stylist could be added at a hair station.

That Salon serves men, women and children, and is open seven days a week: from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday (or later by appointment), from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Sunday and from noon to 4 p.m. on Mondays. Walk-ins are welcome at the salon, 38775 Pioneer Blvd., and off-street parking is available.
