Two drivers arrested after speed racing near Welches
Viatcheslav Kuzmin, 26, is suspected to have driven under the influence
A Vancouver man was arrested Saturday night after Oregon State Police troopers stopped him for driving 97 mph in a 45-mph zone west of Welches on Highway 26.
Viatcheslav Kuzmin, 26, was arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants and also was cited for racing, driving while suspended, driving 97 mph in a 45 mph speed zone, and possessing an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
Kuzmin was lodged at the Clackamas County Jail and released to appear in Clackamas County Circuit Court.
At about 10 p.m. Saturday, Mike Bates of Oregon State Police stopped Kuzmin and another driver near Milepost 40. Both drivers claimed the other was chasing and provoking each other.
The other driver, Anthony Gilcrist, 29, of Salem, was cited to appear in court for racing and speeding.
