Sandy woman dies in Marine Drive crash

Mary Augustine Yakutis-Suit of Sandy was killed Monday night, Dec. 16, when her car went over an embankment on Northeast Marine Drive near 142nd Avenue in East Multnomah County.

Police responded to the crash at 7:52 p.m., said Sgt. Pete Simpson, spokesman at the Portland Police Bureau.

An early report on the crash said the 55-year-old woman was driving westbound on Marine Drive when he car left the roadway in the 14600 block and rolled down the embankment toward the Columbia River.

Yakutis-Suit was ejected and landed on the riverbank, police said.

Medics responding to the scene determined she was dead upon arrival.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and do not know if speed, impairment or distraction were factors.

There were no other vehicles involved in the crash, police reported.

Traffic was re-routed from 138th Avenue to 148th Avenue as police investigated the crash.

Portland Fire & Rescue and Port of Portland Police assisted with the crash investigation.
