HOSA Sandy chapter holds car wash fundraiser

Sandy’s local chapter of HOSA: Future Health Professionals is hosting a fundraising car wash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at the Sandy Fire District’s Main Station, 17460 Bruns Ave.

HOSA was formerly known as Health Occupations Students of America. It is a national career and technical student organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and is the largest student organization that prepares students to enter the healthcare field.

The organization is composed of secondary and post-secondary students.

Sandy High band concert showcases district musicians

Sandy High School will host a district band invitational at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 18.

Bands from schools throughout the Oregon Trail School District will gather together to show off their skills.

SHS Band Director Rob McGlothin said it’s a chance for all the bands to hear what other schools are working on and become familiar with the high school band as well.

On Tuesday, March 11, the students held a jazz concert for both the jazz band and choir.

Team qualifies for state competition

Oregon Trail Academy’s Destination Imagination Team, made up of fourth- and fifth-graders, has qualified to participate in the state tournament. On Saturday, April 5, the team’s six members will travel to Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis to compete.

To qualify for state, OTA’s team took second in its division. If the kids do well at the tournament April 5, the team will qualify for the global tournament, held in Tennessee this year.
