Meinig Park lower parking lot floods

On Friday, May 9, Sandy received about one-third of an inch of precipitation in the form of rain showers and hail, causing flooding in the lower parking lot of Meinig Park.

Due to the fact that a creek runs through the park and it receives quite a bit of runoff from the upper Sandy neighborhoods, this is not the first time it has flooded.

But in the past it has filled to several feet deep, instead of the few inches it flooded last Friday, said City Manager Seth Atkinson.

According to Atkinson, after installing a storm water facility underneath the park, the lower parking lot has shown some improvement in the amount of water it gathers.

City selects new library director

During the week of May 5-9, city staff interviewed candidates for library director and selected one: Sarah McIntyre.

McIntyre accepted the position Friday and will start on Tuesday, July 1.

Her most recent position was with the West Linn Public Library as its interim operations manager. She has also worked for the Fort Vancouver Regional Library and the Beaverton Library.

City Manager Seth Atkinson said she was an outstanding candidate and the city is excited to have her.
