OSP releases Fourth of July weekend report

Oregon State Police reported that over the 78-hour 2014 Fourth of July holiday reporting period, between 6 p.m. Thursday, July 3, and 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 6, there were four fatal accidents and 50 arrests for driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 4, a motorcycle crash in Douglas County killed a 21-year-old Reedsport man who was not wearing a protective helmet.

Another fatal crash occurred at approximately 10:03 p.m. Saturday, July 5, in Jefferson County and killed a 48-year-old man from Madras. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported that alcohol appeared to be a factor.

The other two crashes happened Sunday, July 6. One occurred early Sunday morning just after midnight, on Highway 30 west of Rainier. The 16-year-old female driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The other fatal crash occurred around 4:36 p.m. in Harney County when a 94-year-old woman from Hines driving during the crash was killed.
