Cool treat ready for cash mobsters
The Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce is conducting another cash mob Saturday
The third weekend of each month is cash mob weekend. Thats when the Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce conducts the traditional cash mob.
Its the same activity that has taken the country by storm, and in this region by such cities as Estacada, Portland and Eugene.
A cash mob which includes anyone who wants to support independent, locally owned businesses begins its work at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 20. Each voluntary participant is asked to bring $5, $10 or $20 to make a purchase at the mobbed business, which this month is TCBY in Sandy.
Besides the main purpose of supporting local businesses with a financial boost, there are other benefits of cash mobs such as the social factor and free advertising for the business through the timeworn word-of-mouth method.
And those who have never visited TCBY learn what the business has to offer.
Since the TCBY crew will be participating in the Family Fun Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the cash mobbing will begin at 4 p.m. People who visit the TCBY booth at the festival can get discount coupons to use during the cash mob. A door-prize drawing also is held during the hour of mobbing.
Recognizing the explosive nature of the growth of cash mobbing, the chamber has planned more cash mobs for the third Saturday of each month. Each will be at a different business, and announced in The Post and on the chambers website about four days in advance.
