n An invasive plant workshop will be held during a meeting of the Mt. Hood Lions from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 11,at the Lions Club, 24370 Woodsey Way in Welches. The workshop will help local residents identify some new invaders and learn how to control them.

n The Boring-Damascus Grange is sponsoring its annual strawberry waffle breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, June 16, at the grange hall in the center of Boring alongside Highway 212. The meal is all you can eat Belgian waffles topped with local strawberries and whipped cream. Prices have not changed in several years, and cost $7 for each person, except kids under 6 are free. n The 2013 Sandy Oktober Fest will hold a talent contest on Sunday, Sept. 8, from noon to 4 p.m. on the main stage in the Biergarten, at 18090 SE Langensand Road in Sandy.

All are invited to enter, and all forms of talent are welcome. There will be $500 in cash prizes awarded to the first, second and third place contestants. Organizers want to stress that, “This is not American Idol where you would be guaranteed a recording or movie contract, but you will have a lot of fun.”

n The Firwood Parent-Teachers Association is holding its annual school carnival on Saturday, June 8, from 3-7 p.m. The school is located at 22900 SE Trubel Road in Sandy. There will be bingo, raffles, silent auctions, a Jump house, an 18-foot slide, carnival games and spin art. Admission is free. Bingo tickets are $1.
