Legal issues for small businesses

A “Small Business Legal Basics” seminar is offered free at the Small Business Development Center at Mt. Hood Community College.

In this seminar — offered from noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 — participants will learn how to protect a small business and deal with some of the legal issues involved.

Topics include avoiding common mistakes with contracts, hiring employees and structuring the business.

It also covers licensing regulations as well as tax implications.

The seminar, limited to 20 students, is offered in partnership with the law firm Young Twedt McRostie.

Connect with Sandy biz owners

The Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce will have its Good Morning Sandy networking event at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, at the AntFarm Cafe, 39140 Proctor Blvd.

The event is held to give opportunities for local entrepreneurs to meet people from other businesses, while enjoying some fun and door prizes.

Bring a dollar to enter a drawing, which gives prizes to the winners and saves 50 cents from each entrant to pay for gifts and food for a needy family next Christmas.

Here’s help building a business website

A webinar workshop is available to help business owners learn easy step-by-step ways of building a website for a small business.

The class is designed for any skill-set. The instructor will walk through the budget-conscious options and tools needed to build a successful business website from scratch.

The webinar is scheduled from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Friday, May 17. There is no charge to participate in the class.

Registration should be done at least three days before the class, which is sponsored by the Mt. Hood Community College Small Business Development Center in Gresham.
