Mead attended the meeting to tell her story about the importance of scholarship and to bring notice to several scholarship winners who were honored by the Sandy Kiwanis Club.

By telling her life story, Mead was describing her dedication to continuing education. The only respite in a life dedicated to learning has been her year touring as Miss Oregon, which she entered in order to gain funding to complete her work toward a doctorate in psychology.

Mead shared her message of academic achievement and a touching story of how her brother’s invisible war wounds have influenced her goal to work in the field of post-traumatic stress disorder.

George Morgan was another honoree at the meeting. Morgan has been an active member of the Sandy Kiwanis Club for 54 years. He was given the club’s Legion of Honor Award for distinguished service, and he also had a student scholarship named in his honor.

Sandy High School graduating seniors Sarah Rutledge and Ana Martinez were also given student scholarships at the meeting.
