Chambers annual Music Fair and Feast draws the attention of thousands

Sandy and its residents are getting ready to rock this week. Music is on its way, and it will begin tomorrow, Thursday, July 11.

The Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce organizes the Music Fair and Feast, which is presented by the Sandy Les Schwab Tire Center.

The annual chamber fund-raising event includes rock, country, popular, jazz, soul and music from the ‘70s and ‘80s.

Highlights of this year’s event include a reduced $5 cover charge along with $2-off coupons at Sandy Les Schwab as well as several hours of free entertainment on Thursday and Saturday.

Also included among highlights are the new food vendors, offering a wider variety of food choices, and the junior talent show, which has been moved to Sunday.

There are four main activities that draw people every year to this popular venue in Centennial Plaza: dining, drinking, dancing and just listening to the music.

Of course, chatting with old friends and neighbors and meeting new friends are par for the course.

Attendees enjoy great food, cold beverages, a beer and wine garden and live music.

The event is held from Thursday, July 11, through Sunday, July 14, in the plaza across Pioneer Boulevard from the Sandy City Hall.

Thursday is Family Night, and admission is free to all ages, thanks to sponsor PGE.

The gates will be open from

5 p.m. to midnight, but everyone will be watching the Sandy Mountain Festival Parade during the 7 o’clock hour. Then the music resumes and continues until 11:30 p.m.

Friday and Saturday nights are the main music nights, with cover charge applying from 6 p.m. to midnight for 21 and older. No admission will apply Saturday from noon to 6 p.m., when families may return with the kids and try out some of the event’s tastiest food.

For the 16th year, the talent show will give talented youths an opportunity to share their talent with an audience. This year, the talent show will be held between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday, July 14, followed by the music of Joyful Noyes, which is Kelly and husband Russ.

The acoustic duo will be playing three hours of the music of the Eagles, Black Crowes and the ladies Antebellum and Gaga.

The talent show is divided into small age groups from 6 to 18.

Competitors are evaluated on originality, technical ability, costumes and stage presence.

While the chamber organizes the event, Clackamas County Bank sponsors the talent show.

The talent show’s grand prize is a $500 savings bond. The acoustic duo of Joyful Noyes will perform from 1:30-4:30 p.m. A suggested donation of $2 at the door on Sunday will help support the Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce and other local nonprofits.
