Mystical describes Farajah's music

Free performance at Theater in the Woods in Meinig Park on Sunday

by: CONTRIBUTED PHOTO: - Belinda Underwood has learned the traditions and music of the Middle East, and will amaze listeners when she brings a group of talented musicians to Meinig Park on Sunday, July 28.Sandy Summer Sounds concerts continue this Sunday when the mystical group Farajah enters the stage at Theater in the Woods in Meinig Park.

Headlined by Belinda Underwood, a belly dancer who also plays several instruments, the quintet specializes in Middle Eastern music.

Anyone who comes to the Farajah performance should be prepared for a magic carpet ride.

Besides years of studying many exotic instruments, Underwood has visited other countries to meet the living masters and study the roots of those traditions.

Sandy residents may remember Underwood from her performance at the Library Coffee House in May, where she played old French and Spanish tunes with accordionist Justin Franzio.

She also may be remembered when she played upright bass with the Wayward Vessels at last year’s Brewgrass Festival. She’ll be back with them at this year’s Brewgrass Festival.

Joining Underwood at Meinig Park will be four other musicians playing a number of traditional instruments.

The concert, which begins at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 28, is free and family friendly. The Theater in the Woods at Meinig Park is the smaller of the two stages in the Southeast area of the park, near the gazebo. Bench seating is provided; bring a blanket or a stadium chair for comfort.

Sandy Summer Sounds is made possible through a partnership between the city of Sandy and donations from community sponsors.
