A school's annual fundraising run, for many students, is mainly fun and games. For Oregon Trail Academy kindergartner Lilian Alden, the Jog-A-Thon was an opportunity to make a huge contribution to her school.

With the help of some family friends, Alden raised $3,339, nearly one quarter of the school's total earnings from the Jog-A-Thon. She ran 39 laps.

Alden said her favorite part of the event was her "mama ... helping with it." Alden's mother helped count laps and coordinate the children.

Teacher Nancy Blaesing sees Alden's accomplishment as the beginning of a good year for her kindergarten class.

"(Lilian) ran really hard," Blaesing explained. "There's an overwhelming participation level this year."

Her class alone raised more than $6,000 for Oregon Trail Academy at the Jog-A-Thon.

"This is like an all-time high for the school," Blaesing said. "I anticipate (our class) will win most things all year."

The school's Parent-Teacher Council will throw the students a party to celebrate their accomplishment.
